OmniBAS™ is a next-generation native-packet Point-to-Point microwave (PtP MW) solution that ideally fits today's and tomorrow's bandwidth-intensive IP transmission applications.

OmniBAS™ ideally implements the MW access & aggregation segments of mobile 3G+ / LTE / LTE-A heterogeneous networks, extends the reach of fixed broadband to rural areas and rapidly deploys IP communication and control links for utility companies and governmental agencies. It offers excessive IP radio capacity supporting market-leading modulations up to 4096-QAM, while at the same time enables an evolved and smooth migration to an all-IP architecture. Legacy (TDM/SDH) services are seamlessly transported over Pseudowires with carrier-class reliability and the highest availability.

OmniBAS™ allows highly-flexible and cost-optimized link configurations through the use of all-outdoor (OmniBAS™ OSDR) and split-mount (OmniBAS-2Wc,OmniBAS-2W, OmniBAS-4Wv2) units in tail sites, or through high nodal solutions (OmniBAS-8W) in traffic aggregation sites, all from the same platform.

OmniBAS™ CBAN (Converged Backhaul Aggregation Node), in particular, is a unique multi-technology solution allowing aggregation of PtP, Point-to-MultiPoint (PtMP) and E-Band links, and supporting a wide range of connectivity options (E1, SDH, GbE).

The advanced radio and smart packet networking features of OmniBAS™ products assure bandwidth optimization, carrier-class service delivery and highest-possible availability. The per-link line rate, on a single 56 MHz channel, reaches up to 910 Mbit/s (1,780 Mbits/s with XPIC), while a single 1RU (2RU) indoor unit can support up to four (eight) links. Moreover, advanced IP packet optimization techniques increase throughput even further.

Protected Ethernet Rings

By using several OmniBAS™-2Wc/-2W /-4W /-8W units, native Ethernet rings can be implemented, as defined in the ITU-T G.8032 specification. Such rings will have the following characteristics:

  • Protection and recovery switching within 50 ms.
  • Efficient bandwidth utilization of ring traffic.
  • Automatic reversion mechanism upon fault recovery.
  • Frame duplication and re-order prevention mechanisms.
  • Loop-prevention mechanisms.
  • Use of different timers (WTR timer, hold-off timers) to avoid race conditions and unnecessary switching operations.

Technical Description

The OmniBAS™ split-mount systems comprise indoor units (IDUs) - inclusive of OmniBAS™-2W, OmniBAS™-4W and OmniBAS™-8W - as well as compact outdoor units (ODUs) with integrated antennas and couplers.

Technical Characteristics:


OmniBAS-2Wc is the new IDU addition to the OmniBAS product family. It is available in two versions, with one or two embedded modems, and employs a fanless chassis design with passive cooling providing hardened characteristics in extreme environments.

Native-IP, highly-modular indoor unit 2 RU capable of simultaneously accommodating eight radio modems, two interface cards and two controller cards in the same chassis.

Modems can be chosen flexibly depending on the type of the connected radio equipment. For ODU radios, coaxial IF cables will be used, whilst for all-outdoor OmniBAS™ OSDRs, connections will be via Ethernet cabling.

OmniBAS™-8W constitutes the base for the leading CBAN (Converged Backhaul Aggregation Node), which flexibly supports all MW technologies required for HetNet backhauling.
